Craig Levitz, MD

Dr. Levitz is a sports medicine specialist who is based at South Nassau hospital with offices in Rockville Centre and Cedarhurst. He is the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at South Nassau Community Hospital, an affiliate of the Columbia University Healthcare system. His surgical practice focuses on disorders of the knee, shoulder and elbow. He is the author of over 20 scientific papers and presentations focusing on advances in shoulder and knee surgery. He has presented at numerous national meetings around the country and teaches surgical techniques for minimally invasive surgery of the shoulder and knee to both a domestic and international audience. As lead faculty for smith and nephew's minimally invasive surgery course, Dr. Levitz spends several days a month demonstrating these surgical techniques around the country. Dr. Levitz serves as a consultant to major orthopaedic companies assisting in the development of new surgical techniques and equipment.

Dr. Levitz went to Cornell University where he graduated cum laude for his undergraduate education. He studied medicine at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and performed a 5 year orthopaedic residency at the Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania. Following his residency he was selected among 3000 applicants for a fellowship with Dr. James R. Andrews, the most respected sports medicine surgeon in the world.

Dr. Levitz has served as an assistant team physician for the auburn university football team and has participated in the care of the Cincinnati reds, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and many members of the PGA tour. He has operated on over 100 professional football, baseball, basketball, and NHL athletes.

Dr. Levitz is currently a member of the Arthoscopic Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
